Julia Gottlieb Biography
Bossa Nova / Jazz / Western Swing Singer
It was inevitable that singer Julia Gottlieb would grow up to do something special in music. Julia grew up surrounded by a musical family in the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts. Julia has said “I don’t remember learning to read or write music. It has always been a part of my life.” Her musical pedigree includes the classics of every genre from Bach and Debussy to Bill Evans and Billie Holiday to Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. Julia’s early training and influences are evident when you hear her phrasing and effortless delivery. Piano lessons and then voice lessons led to her attending New York’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary music; while there she expanded her love for Latin and world music and began to sing in several languages, including Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian.
After graduation, Julia performed regularly with a guitar trio. She also mixed things up with a hot jazz/bluegrass/western swing group, The Blue Ribbon Boys, adding yet another genre to those she already mastered. Julia’s style evolved to embrace and incorporate disparate musical forms to create a unique blend all her own. Though loving touring, Julia decided to pursue her solo career and moved to Los Angeles. Julia is currently performing and recording with a talented group of musicians and recently completed a new CD.
” Although it’s definitely influenced by Jazz, I wouldn’t call my album strictly a Jazz album” says Julia. These are songs that pull from many genres. Some will be reacquainted with forgotten favorites and others will be discovering these songs for the first time. Julia brings a fresh interpretation that makes the classics new to everyone. Julia’s next project is a compilation of lullabies for a children’s Album. This project is sure to delight parents and children alike. “I view making music as a continuous adventure” explains Julia. Julia Gottlieb makes music an adventure for everyone.
